Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities? Community Access Naperville (CAN) is looking for dedicated individuals to join our team!

Program Leader - Part Time

​

The Program Leader offers guidance and support to a maximum of six individuals with developmental disabilities (I/DD) as they engage in our community-based program.

​

Each day, adult members of the I/DD community participate in CAN activities such as volunteering with local non-profits, enjoying meals together, and taking part in various recreational activities. The Program Leader is responsible for leading each daily session and providing direction to additional support staff and interns. They also tackle any unexpected challenges that may arise throughout the day. Occasionally, minimal assistance may be required for changing clothes or personal hygiene. Strong communication with staff, parents, and community partners is crucial for success.


Requirements

  • Availability 1-3 days per week, 8:45 am - 2:15 pm

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in special education, therapeutic recreation, vocational rehabilitation, social services, or related field

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Minimum of 5 years experience managing behaviors in a proactive, creative and positive manner, and working with a variety of disabilities (especially autism)

  • Driver's license, clean driving record, and minimum age 25 required to drive our 15-passenger van

Program Assistant - Part Time


The Program Assistant will help the Program Leader provide direction and advice to interns and volunteers, paying special attention to welcoming and mentoring those helpers who are new to our program. In case of emergency, the Program Assistant must be able to lead the group if separated from the Program Leader.  Occasionally, minimal assistance with changing clothes or personal hygiene may be necessary. Effective communication with staff and parents is essential.
 
Additionally, the Program Assistant will be responsible for gathering and preparing work tasks, advising the Bookkeeper regarding the need for supplies, and advising, editing or writing the daily summary.

 

Requirements

  • Availability 1-2 days per week, 8:45 am - 2:15 pm

  • A degree, or pursuit of a degree, in special education, therapeutic recreation, vocational rehabilitation, disability studies or social services, and experience managing behaviors and working with a variety of disabilities (especially autism) is ideal. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills​
