Volunteer

Community Access Naperville (CAN) empowers adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live meaningful, productive lives. We are always looking for dedicated volunteers to act as neurotypical peers. ​​ Are you interested in providing hands-on support and ensuring our daily program activities run smoothly? ​

If you are available to:

  • Help out for a few hours per week during our weekday sessions, 9 am - 2 pm or 11 am - 2 pm, or Saturday sessions, 10 am - 3 pm.

  • Eager to support a nonprofit organization and make a difference for people with disabilities.

Careers

We are always looking for part time Program Leaders and Assistants to join our team.

​​

Program Staff support our participants while they volunteer in the community, dine at local restaurants, and enjoy recreational outings. Candidates must have experience working with individuals with a variety of disabilities (especially autism) and managing behaviors in a proactive, creative, and positive manner. 

​​

  • Work 1–2 part-time shifts per week typically between 8:45 AM and 2:15 PM

  • Eager to support a nonprofit organization and make a difference for people with disabilities.

Internship

Currently accepting applications for internships with Summer 2027 start dates or later.

Ready to get involved with providing direct assistance to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities? Come join us in our community outings as an intern!

 

For this intern program, you will: 

  • Support: Guide participants through vocational tasks, community outings, and social interactions.

  • Develop: Create and lead short recreational activities tailored to participant abilities.

  • Communicate: Write brief daily summaries to keep parents informed and maintain clear contact with staff.

Our interns must be:

  • At least 18 years old

  • Genuinely interested in working with this population

  • Able to communicate clearly and maintain a professional focus on participants during sessions.​

  • Available to provide direct support during our weekday (9:00 am – 2:00 pm) and Saturday (10:00 am – 3:00 pm) sessions
